Det har den senaste tiden förekommit spekulationer och anklagelser om att hälsorådet är oseriösa och medvetet gett ut falsk information om en katt vid namn Busik. Vi vill härmed klargöra att detta aldrig har skett.
Fram till november 2016 har hälsorådets uppfattning varit att Busik, tillsammans med en hona, gett en avkomma som fått diagnosen HCM enligt obduktion. Denna information är något som anmälts av kattens ägare till Siberian Research Inc. och som funnits publicerat på deras hemsida under flera år. Ägaren till katten har även gått ut med dessa uppgifter på Facebook. Hälsorådet har inte sett någon anledning till att betvivla detta tidigare. I början på november 2016 kom dock ifrågasättanden på Facebook angående korrektheten i kattens stamtavledokumentation och obduktionsprotokoll. Inga fakta i ärendet har kommunicerats till hälsorådet direkt utan detta är något som kommit till hälsorådets kännedom på omvägar.
Vår bedömning av detta i nuläget är att vi inte kan avgöra vilken källa som har rätt, ord står mot ord. Vi vill dock poängtera att oavsett detta så har hälsorådet aldrig påstått att Busik har HCM eller att det är han som är orsaken till att hans avkomma fått HCM. Han har dock, likt alla andra katter som har en nära släkting (helsyskon, förälder, avkomma) med HCM, tidigare omnämnts i svaren på de parningsförfrågningar som mailats till hälsorådet, i de fall han funnits med inom 5 generationer. Där har vi talat om att han, tillsammans med honan i fråga, har gett en avkomma som diagnosticerats med HCM. Båda parter har omnämns eftersom vi aldrig kan säga vem av två föräldradjur som är orsak till att en avkomma får HCM.
Under våren 2016 har rutinerna kring våra parningsförfrågningar ändrats och vi har endast besvarat ett fåtal sedan dess. Busik har enbart omnämnts i en av dessa och det var innan allt detta uppdagades.
Det påstås vidare att vi har ”hemliga listor” med hälsoinformation och HCM-spekulationer som vi använder oss av vid parningsförfrågningar, samt att den sistnämnda publicerats under ett år. För att förtydliga hur det ligger till med detta så är det så att medlemmar, sedan avelsrådet startades, har kunnat anmäla hälsoinformation om sina katter för att hjälpa till att kartlägga rasens hälsa. Denna information finns mycket riktigt samlad i ett sekretessbelagt dokument som aldrig publicerats offentligt. Vi använder oss inte av någon hemlig lista med HCM-spekulationer vid parningsförfrågningar utan den information vi ger vid parningsförfrågningar är sådant som finns i öppna källor (Pawpeds, SRI och olika länders rasringars listor), samt information som anmälts till avels-/hälsorådet där ägaren aktivt medgivit att vi får lämna ut informationen vid parningsförfrågningar.
I de fall ägaren inte vill att vi för vidare uppgifterna, eller om information om medgivande saknas, stannar informationen i hälsorådets sekretessbelagda dokument. Det finns alltså hälsoinformation som inte delges medlemmar, men det är alltså ägaren som rapporterat in information till oss som bestämt på vilket sätt vi får använda informationen, inte vi.
När det gäller tidigare insamlad hälsoinformation saknar vi i samtliga fall tillåtelse till öppen publicering. Därför kan detta inte ske i dagsläget. Hälsorådet tycker dock att öppenhet är viktigt och vår ambition är att vi ska kunna delge medlemmar så mycket information som möjligt. Just därför har vi infört ett nytt system för insamling av hälsoinformation som gör att vi enkelt kan se exakt vilken information som lämnats, vem uppgiftslämnaren är (inkl. kontaktuppgifter) och vilken typ av öppenhet av uppgifterna denne tillåter. Vi har dessutom påbörjat ett arbete med att verifiera tidigare anmälda uppgifter samt om ägaren godkänner öppen publicering eller inte. Det här är dock ett enormt arbete som tar tid.
Att utöver det här också dubbelkontrollera uppgifter som finns att tillgå i enligt oss trovärdiga, de öppna källorna nämnda ovan är inget vi sett anledning att göra. Det är tyvärr inget vi har resurser till heller.
Det är dock självklart viktigt att den information vi sprider är korrekt och om det finns felaktigheter så välkomnar vi att ägare till katterna kontaktar oss så vi kan vidta nödvändiga åtgärder kring vår informationsspridning. Hälsorådets mål är att behålla en hälsosam ras! Inte att svartmåla katter, linjer eller uppfödare.
Slutligen måste vi återigen betona att vi inte kan eller har möjlighet att kommunicera via sociala medier och att vi därför uppmanar till att detta respekteras i fortsättningen.

Recently, there has been speculation and accusations that the SäSK Health Council is dishonest and deliberately has given false information about a cat named Busik. We would like to clarify that this has never happened.
Until November 2016 the belief of the SäSK Health Council was that Busik, along with a female, has produced an offspring diagnosed with HCM according to an autopsy. This information is something that has been provided by the cat’s owner to Siberian Research Inc., and that has been published on their website for several years. The owner of the cat has also gone public with this information on Facebook. The SäSK Health Council has seen no reason to doubt this earlier. In early November 2016, questions arose on Facebook regarding the accuracy of the cat’s registration documents and autopsy report. No facts of the matter have been communicated to the SäSK Health Council directly. It is something that indirectly has come to the SäSK Health Council’s attention.
Our assessment of the situation at the moment is that we can not determine which source is right, it is one testimony pitted agains another. We would however like to point out that regardless of this, the SäSK Health Council have never claimed that Busik has HCM, or that he is the one who is the cause of the alleged HCM of his offspring. However, the SäSK Health Council have mentioned him in the replies of mating inquiries that members have e-mailed to us, if he has been present within 5 generations in the test mating. This is the same for all cats who have a close relative (siblings, parents, offspring) with HCM. We have mentioned that he, along with the female in question, has given an offspring diagnosed with HCM. Both parties have been mentioned because we can never be totally sure of who of the two parents is the cause of an offspring’s HCM.
In spring of 2016, the routines around answering mating inquiries changed and we have only responded to a few since then. Busik is only mentioned in one of these and this was before the possible mistake was revealed.
SäSK Health Council has also been accused of having ”secret lists” of health information and HCM speculation that we use when responding to mating inquiries. And that also have been accidentally published for one year. In order to clarify this we need to explain that ever since the SäSK Breeding Council (this was the name earlier) started, members have been able to report health information about their cats to help with the work of mapping the breed’s health. It is correct that this information is registered in a confidential document. One that, to our knowledge, never has been officially published. We do not use any secret list with HCM speculations when responding to mating inquiries. We use information available in open sources (Pawpeds, SRI and lists of different countries’ breed associations), and information that has been reported to the SäSK Breeding/Health Council where the owner actively consented that we may disclose the information.
In cases where the owner has not wanted us to disclose information, or if information on consent is missing, the health information has stayed within the SäSK Health Council’s classified document. Consequently, it is true that there are health information that is not communicated to members. But, it is always the owner who reports the information that decides how we are allowed to use the information.
As for all previously collected health information, we lack explicit permission of open publishing. Therefore, this can not be done. However, the SäSK Health Counsil believe that transparency is important, and our aim is to be able to communicate as much information as possible to members. That is why we have introduced a new system for the collection of health information that enables us to easily see exactly what information has been reported, who the owner is (incl. his/her contact details) and the type of transparency of the data he or she allows. We have also begun to verify the previously reported data, and to find out whether the owner give permission for open publishing or not. However, this is a huge task that takes time.
For us to also double-check all information that is available in (to our understanding) credible, open sources mentioned above, is nothing we have seen any reason to do. Or that we have the resources to do for that matter.
However, it is of course very important that the information we provide is correct and if there are errors, we welcome that the owners of the cats contact us so we can take the necessary measures for our future work. The SäSK Health Council’s objective is to maintain a healthy breed! Not to disparage cats, lines or breeder.
Finally, we must emphasize once again that we are not able to respond or communicate via social media and therefore we ask for this to be respected in the future.
